Periodontology

What is periodontology?

Periodontology is the branch of dental medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the supporting tissue of the teeth – the gums, the bone and the fibres that hold a tooth in place. Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy smile, and their timely treatment is crucial for preserving natural teeth.

At the Dentico dental centre we pay special attention to the early detection of gingivitis and periodontitis in order to prevent the progression of the disease and reduce the risk of tooth loss.

When is periodontal treatment needed?

A periodontal examination is recommended when you notice changes in your gums or if more time has passed since your last professional teeth cleaning. With timely treatment it is possible to stop the progression of the disease and preserve the health of the supporting tissue of the teeth.

  • bleeding gums when brushing or using dental floss
  • red, swollen or sensitive gums
  • bad breath that keeps returning
  • accumulation of tartar and plaque
  • gum recession or loose teeth
  • regular preventive check-ups of oral health

What does a periodontal examination look like?

The examination begins with an assessment of the condition of the gums, the tartar and the supporting tissue of the teeth. If needed, we analyse a digital orthopantomogram or other diagnostic images in order to assess the condition of the bone and determine the degree of periodontal disease.

After the examination we create an individual treatment plan which may include professional cleaning, air polishing, periodontal treatments or regular check-ups.

Periodontal treatments we offer

Professional tartar removal

Regular removal of tartar and soft deposits reduces the risk of developing gingivitis and periodontitis and preserves the health of the gums. It is recommended every 6 to 12 months, depending on the condition of your oral health.

Air polishing

With air polishing we remove soft deposits and pigmentation caused by food, drinks and smoking, restoring a more natural colour and a feeling of cleanliness to the teeth.

Periodontal treatments

In cases of advanced periodontitis we carry out targeted treatments that remove bacteria and deposits from the periodontal pockets and slow down or stop the progression of the disease.

Regular check-ups

After the treatment has been completed we monitor the condition of the gums and oral hygiene and give patients recommendations so that they can preserve the results of the treatment in the long term.

Why choose Dentico for gum treatment?

The health of the gums is just as important as the health of the teeth. That is why we approach every patient individually, put the emphasis on prevention and early detection of problems and plan treatment that preserves your natural teeth and the health of your oral cavity in the long term.
